STATE BOUND: Baseball Advances as Regional Champs

With packed-out stands cheering them on, pitchers Walter Ford, 12, and Tanner Sauls, 10, led the Patriots to victory Tuesday night against the University High Titans. They came out of the win as Region 1-6A champions.

While the teams were evenly matched on paper, the Patriots held the Titans to zero runs while managing to put two runs on the board themselves.

Andrew Krevatas, 12, and Brent Cadenhead, 12, led the team's offense in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on one hit with the help of Austin Starkie, 11, and Landon Rogers, 12.

The team's excellent defense allowed them to hold on to their lead for the remainder of the game. Their victory ensured their spot in the state playoffs in Ft. Myers later this week. One of only four teams out of 2,227 high schools in Florida to earn a spot in the tournament, the Patriots won the No. 1 seed in the state. They will play Friday morning at 9am CST against No. 4 seed Melbourne. Follow along at @baseball_pace on Twitter for updates if you can't make it to the state tournament to watch our boys play!
